1. Introduction
1.1 This Privacy Policy forms part of the Teacher Tapp Terms and Conditions (“Conditions”) governing your use of the Teacher Tapp mobile application (the “App”) made available by Education Intelligence Limited, trading as Teacher Tapp (“we”, “us”, “our”).
In this Privacy Policy, “you” or “your” refers to users of the App. Capitalised terms have the meanings given in the Conditions unless otherwise defined here.
1.2 Unless otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy, we determine the purposes and means of processing personal data collected when you register for and use the App. We therefore act as the data controller for this personal data.
We are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and handling your personal data in accordance with:
- the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), and
- the Data Protection Act 2018.
1.3 This Privacy Policy and the Conditions explain:
- what personal data we collect
- how and why we collect and use it
- the lawful basis on which we process it
- who we may share it with
- how long we retain it
- your rights in relation to your personal data.
In order to provide the App and related services to you, we need to collect and process personal data as described in this Privacy Policy.
1.4 The App may contain links to websites operated by partner networks, advertisers or affiliates. These websites have their own privacy policies and we do not accept responsibility or liability for those policies. Please review those policies before submitting any personal data.
2. Personal Data We Collect
2.1 We may collect, store and use the personal data described in Annex A of this Privacy Policy. This includes information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the App, and technical information relating to your device.
2.2 We aim to keep your personal information accurate and up to date. Please notify us of any changes to your contact details by emailing: hello@teachertapp.co.uk
3. Data Collected on Behalf of Third Parties
Sometimes other organisations ask us to run surveys on their behalf. In those cases, they are responsible for how your data is used, and we will tell you when this applies.
3.1 We sometimes work with third-party organisations who commission questions on the App for purposes such as:
- market research
- academic research
- exploratory studies relating to education.
3.2 Typically, we create questions on the App based on the requirements of the commissioning organisation and provide aggregated analysis of responses. Questions may be targeted to particular groups of users, for example:
- primary or secondary teachers
- particular geographic areas
- other demographic characteristics.
3.3 In some cases, the commissioning organisation determines which questions are asked and how responses are analysed or used. In these circumstances:
- the third-party organisation acts as the data controller, and
- Education Intelligence Limited acts as a data processor on their behalf.
3.4 Where a third party acts as controller for a particular study, we will notify you through the App and provide a link to that organisation’s privacy policy.
3.5 Organisations that currently fall into this category are listed in Annex B, together with links to their privacy policies.
4. When We May Disclose Personal Data
4.1 We will not will not share your personal data to any third party except:
- where necessary to operate the App, to service providers and subcontractors who act on our behalf )
- where a third-party organisation commissions research through the App and acts as data controller for that research (see Clause 3 and Annex B)
- Where required to do so by regulators, authorities, or court order.
4.2 If some or all of our business is acquired by another organisation, personal data held by us may be transferred to the buyer or prospective buyer. Such transfers are carried out on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating and developing the business.
5. Lawful Bases for Processing
5.1 We will only process personal data where permitted by applicable data protection law. The main lawful bases we rely on are:
Performance of a contract Where processing is necessary to provide the App or fulfil obligations under the Conditions.
Legitimate interests Where processing is necessary for our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms. Our legitimate interests include:
- operating and improving the App and its features
- understanding how users engage with surveys and content
- developing new products and services related to education research
- administering our loyalty programme
- ensuring the security and integrity of the App.
Legal obligation Where we must process personal data to comply with legal or regulatory requirements.
Consent Where you have given clear consent for specific processing activities. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at hello@teachertapp.co.uk. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
Details of the lawful basis applicable to each category of personal data are provided in Annex A.
6. Storage and Security of Personal Data
6.1 Personal data is stored on secure servers located in the EU.
6.2 We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect personal data from unauthorised access, accidental loss, misuse, alteration or destruction.
6.3 Personal data is retained while you use the App and for a period afterwards where required for legal, regulatory or operational purposes.
6.4 Occasionally, survey questions may involve special category personal data — this is a legal term for particularly sensitive information, such as details relating to:
- racial or ethnic origin
- political opinions
- religious or philosophical beliefs
- trade union membership
- health
- sexual orientation
Where we process such information, we rely on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at hello@teachertapp.co.uk.
6.5 Please note that internet and mobile network transmissions are not completely secure. Any transmission of data to the App is at your own risk.
6.6 We may use artificial intelligence tools, including Large Language Models (LLMs), to assist with internal analysis, product development or operational support. We do not submit your personally identifiable information to them and we have opted out from automatically training third party models.
7. Your Data Protection Rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- the right of access
- the right to rectification
- the right to erasure
- the right to restrict processing
- the right to data portability
- the right to object to processing
- the right to object to direct marketing
- the right not to be subject to automated decision-making
- the right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

8. Marketing and Advertising
We may use personal data you provide, together with responses to survey questions, to:
- operate our loyalty programme
- understand user engagement
- determine whether certain content, advertising or communications may be of interest to you.
This may involve the creation of automated profiles, but we do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects solely through automated processing.
You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by contacting us at hello@teachertapp.co.uk or using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Please note that if you continue to use the App, you may still receive content and communications within the App itself.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified through the App.

12. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of England and Wales. Legal proceedings may be brought in the courts of England and Wales, although you may bring proceedings in Scotland or Northern Ireland if you reside there.

Where any of these organisations act as data controller for a specific survey or study, you will be notified within the App and directed to the relevant privacy policy.
Annex C – Your Rights
Right of access – You may request confirmation that your personal data is being processed and obtain a copy of it.
Right to rectification – You may request that inaccurate or incomplete personal data is corrected.
Right to erasure – You may request deletion of your personal data in certain circumstances, for example where it is no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected.
Right to restrict processing – You may request that we limit how we use your personal data in certain circumstances.
Right to data portability – You may request your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, and have it transferred to another organisation where technically feasible.
Right to object – You may object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes.
Right to object to direct marketing – You may opt out of receiving marketing communications at any time.
Right not to be subject to automated decision-making – You have the right not to be subject to decisions made solely by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Right to withdraw consent – Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
