9 May 2025

Hey Teacher Tapp Community!

It’s Week 30 some of you will be waving goodbye to school by the end of this month (42%!) and others will shoot off before the end of June (49%). A tiny number are still going into July (6%).

Now, time for the edu-data!

1. What are admins doing for TAW?

Many teachers told us their schools have special plans this week, and 65% said their administrators are organizing activities to celebrate staff.

So, what kinds of things are teachers being treated to this week?

🥗 🍳 ☕️🧋Catered lunches, breakfast bars, and coffee carts

💆 👐 🎟️ Daily treats, massages, spirit days, and raffles

🎁✏️🥨 Small, meaningful gifts like classroom supplies, custom swag, or favorite snacks

📝 🆓 💚 Personal touches like thank-you notes from students and parents, or time off from duties

Does it make a difference?

In schools where admins are putting on TAW activities, will you find teachers just as burnt out as in schools where the admins are doing nothing?

Possibly not. Although this is a small sample, there does seem to be a difference between those teachers who are receiving special treats and those who aren’t. Teachers with treats are more than twice as likely to report NO feelings of burnout than teachers whose admins are doing nothing (9% vs 4%).

2. Teachers appreciating teachers

Students engaging in Teacher Appreciation Week is a standard – but how many Teacher Tappers sent out cards to other teachers?

The split was almost 50/50!

22% had sent cards, and 28% had card sending on their to-do list!

But what sort of teacher sends these cards?

Elementary and middle teachers are FAR MORE likely to be writing cards to their colleagues compared to high school teachers (50% vs 37%).

Does your principal appreciate you?

When it comes to appreciation from the leaders at your school – are Teacher Tappers feeling the love?

Teachers in elementary schools are the most likely to say “always” compared to middle and high school teachers (22% vs 18% and 17%).

The difference might be explained by the size of the school – elementary teachers could have more contact with their principal. Teacher Tapp will have to ask more questions to find out more!

3. What do teachers think are the best gifts to receive?

Social media is overflowing with suggestions for presents on TAW, but what do teachers say to give?

By far the top choice was gift cards (a huge 64%)! Something that gives teachers the freedom to pick what they want.

Next in line was a heartfelt note (14%) and then classroom supplies (7%).

Is this the same for teachers in England?

When Teacher Tappers in England were asked a similar question, they gave different answers!

Here, the vote was split between a heartfelt note (37%) and gift cards (32%) followed by booze! 😳 Alcohol scooped 12% – way ahead classroom supplies (2%).
